Student Council has lots of information to share today because we are just one week away from the football homecoming parade on September 6th and things are changing for the better!!
Our Student Council wants to start by thanking Officer Adam Clark of the Charlestown Police Department for working with us to come up with a better plan for the parade line up and order. The lineup and staging will be different this year to accommodate our growing event! This is a wonderful thing for our community, but it’s gotten so big that the old format no longer works best.
The student parking lot will be for FLOATS ONLY…no cars (other than those carrying homecoming court members) will be permitted in the student parking lot. We expect nearly 30 floats/participants in this year’s parade and need all of the lot to fit everyone in. Officer Clark will have officers and/or barrels to block the entrance to the student parking lot for cars and allow only floats in that area. Cars will need to pull in, drop off, and/or park in the teacher lot nearest the softball and baseball fields by way of the road nearest Pleasant Ridge or from Market Street/Highway 3 (but not from Park St.).
The lineup will be in reverse this year, with the exception of the Marching Band of Pirates leading us off with an escort in front by Officer Clark. Following the band in this order will be:
• Any community floats (City Hall’s train, VFW, American Legion, etc.)
• Little Pirate Football & Cheer
• Pleasant Ridge
• Jonathan Jennings
• Charlestown Middle School
• Charlestown High School Clubs
• Freshmen float and homecoming attendants’ car (1)
• Sophomore float and homecoming attendants’ cars (2)
• Junior float and homecoming attendants’ cars (3)
• Senior float and homecoming attendants’ cars (5)
• Football Team
If you are participating with a float, please try to line up in the lot accordingly and facing in the direction to exit the lot onto Park Street exit nearest Monroe and be in line NO LATER THAN 4:30. The route of the parade has not changed. It will still leave the student lot from the entrance/exit nearest Monroe at 5:00 sharp, proceed down Monroe to Main, and end at the square with the pep rally.
If you have questions, please feel free to reach out. And as always, Student Council thanks you for your participation in the longest running football homecoming parade in the state of Indiana!
With Pirate Pride,
CHS Student Council
