“Bikes for Them” – How you can help kids in our own communities

IMG_0931.jpg

If there’s one thing that can be said about Charlestown, its that we have a love for our community like no other and are quick in response, and selfless in action when it comes to rallying around a need.

This year, Ruthie Jackson of the Charlestown Township Trustee’s Office, and Tim Harbin of Voigner’s Auto have teamed up to collect new bikes and toys that will go right back into our rural Clark County communities – they are calling this mission “Bikes for Them” – and they need our help.

You can donate one bike, ten bikes, or pitch in with some of our readers to help us send over 6-8 bikes as a group. We’ve committed to raising $200 from our readers, and if we hit our target we’ll match it. We’ll give a big shout-out to everyone who helps to reach this goal – you can learn more or contribute here.

You can also drop off bikes and toys anytime at the locations below.

” Many of the kids we are helping wouldn’t have much on Christmas morning. Imagine the smiles and light in their eyes to wake up and have a brand new bike from Santa…that’s what it’s all about, helping these kids have a Christmas to remember.”

– Ruthie Jackson, North Clark Outreach Center

Drop Off Locations:

Charlestown Township Trustees Office | 322 Main Cross Street, Charlestown

Copper Kettle | 276 Main Cross Street, Charlestown

Voigner’s Auto and Air | 1903 Dutch Lane, Jeffersonville

Tim and Ruthie will be set up live on Thanksgiving Weekend (November 23rd – 25th) from DAYLIGHT to DARK on the corner of Highway 3 and Main Street in Charlestown. Come out to drop off a donation, and stay for Light Up Charlestown.

The Christmas Season officially kicks off in Charlestown on the Friday after Thanksgiving – slated this year for November 23rd at 6:30 p.m. in Greenway Park. A brief musical program will precede the countdown and flipping of the switch. After light up, head over to the Charlestown Family Activities Park to catch Santa. The light show continues every night from 6:00 to 11:00 pm, and runs through January 2nd. More about Charlestown’s Christmas City here or via their Facebook page.
