Candidate Profile: Darlene Duvall Williams

Darlene Duvall Williams (R) is a candidate for Charlestown’s 1st District City Council seat. She will run against Bo Bertram (R) in the primary, and the winner will face Steve Coyne in the General Election.

I realize that I am a new face and voice to many here. I would like to share my qualifications for the city council position district 1.

Thanks for the forum,

Darlene Duvall Williams

Office Seeking: City Council, District 1

Age: 64

Political Party: Republican

Political Experience: I have not served in an elected political capacity; however, I have served as a grassroots organizer and non-profit board of director aiding the disenfranchised in political environments. I worked with the P.A.R.K. group to obtain the Charlestown State Park from the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant and Senator Lee Hamilton, and the NOW! Group working to retain and protect the Charlestown public water system from privatization.

Family: Husband of 47 years, Jim Williams; Daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Ron Harvey and 2 grandsons, Jackson and Evan.

Occupation: After 40 years in the public sector, retired from public work at age 56.

Related Pertinent Experience: Graduate of Indiana University, S.E.
Previously, I obtained my C.P.M. and served as a contracts negotiator and manager, these skills will help me to work on City contracts and assisting in the negotiations as we face potential explosive growth in our town.

I have also served as a Global Business Unit Director, responsible for bringing technology and business solutions to Fortune 500 CEO/CFO/CIO’s, while also leading global teams of hundreds of employees to bring change to companies’ bottom lines. I am comfortable presenting and engaging in the C-suite, boardrooms, and with business executives and in technical environments. This will help to balance budgets and bring a vision of needed change to the city.

I have also worked and lived globally, travelling with clients to Mexico, living in India, and launching new businesses in Guadalajara Mexico, London England, and Koln Germany. As we work to entice new businesses to Charlestown, I can use many of these previous experiences to help the city’s growth initiatives.

I believe, the most interesting and useful experience was working for Ross Perot, Sr. former candidate for office of President of the United States and owner of Perot Systems. He was not only my boss, but a mentor and character shaping individual that cultivated the desire to strive for family first, faith, excellence, truth and service to our country above all else.

Thank you for your consideration.
