CANDIDATE PROFILE: Ruthie Jackson, Charlestown City Council (District 2)


Hi, I am Ruthie Jackson a lifelong resident of Charlestown. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Doug Jackson, for 35 years with whom I have 2 daughters, Renea and Jacqueline. We also have a nephew, Jackson, who will be a senior at Charlestown High School, and grandchildren, Braylon, Malachi, and Bryson.

Currently serving as Deputy Trustee for Trustee Tom Kendrick I have held the position since Tom took office in 2015.  I co-founded and am the Director of the North Clark Outreach Center (NCOC), a non-profit 501c3 resource center for residents of Charlestown and the surrounding area.  I have served as Director since the founding of the NCOC in 2001.  Specific outreach programs associated with the NCOC include the Elf Tree, the Kiwanis/NCOC Coat Giveaway, the Charlestown Parks Department Backpack Giveaway, and the multi-sponsor Bicycle Giveaway. I was the Founder or Co-Founder of all these events.

I worked for current Charlestown, IN Mayor Bob Hall as his assistant during 2008-2011.

I was honored as Clark County Woman of the Year in 2005 by the News and Tribune for community impact and involvement.

  • Charlestown Redevelopment Commission
  • Pleasant Ridge Elementary School PTO (Past President)

  • Little Pirate Football (Cheer Sponsor)
  • Worked with the Red Cross during Hurricane Katrina and other Natural Disasters.
  • Charlestown Beautification Committee

I am a proven leader in Charlestown. My experience at the Mayor’s Office, The Trustee’s Office and the NCOC, has allowed me to build strong relationships with the people of Charlestown.  They know they can trust me and that I am there for them and their families.  As councilperson, I will continue to serve this community that I love with a caring heart and a listening ear for all I represent.

I will speak to those in my district when it comes to issues important to them and seek from them their ideas. I can make hard decisions that are needed to be made as a councilperson.

I feel my knowledge about city operations, budgets, and grant writing combined with my connection to the people make me the best candidate.
