Aerial illustration from a 1930 pamphlet advertisement for the Rose Island amusement park. It contains descriptions of the park, the riverboats people took to the island, and a history of the land on which it was built. Rose Island was founded in 1923 by David Rose on a peninsula formed by 14 Mile Creek and the Ohio River in Charlestown, Indiana. Rose Island was an amusement park and had cabins for rent. It was destroyed by the Great Flood of 1937 of the Ohio River. Flip through the brochure here for a walk through yesteryear at Rose Island.
The Charlestown State Park will offer a Rose Island History Hike this weekend – tours will be held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2:00 p.m. each day. Click here for more information.
